Chapter 12 - The Pawn Who Thought He Was Powerful

Tyler finally admitted everything he knew.
Which wasn’t much.
That was the terrifying part.
Someone smarter had controlled him.
They used his anger.
His pride.
His need to feel important.
Everything I saw in him was predictable.
That was why he was chosen.
Dana looked toward my mother.
“And you?”
My mother cried silently.
“I wanted her safe.”
I looked at her.
“By lying to me?”
She had no answer.
The sedan remained still.
Waiting.
Then the rear window moved slightly.
Only an inch.
Everyone noticed.
Nobody saw the person inside.
But my mother stepped backward.
Her face lost all color.
