Chapter 9 - The Life I Buried

I finally told them part of the truth.
Not everything.
Enough.
Six years ago, I left because someone close to me became dangerous.
Not physically.
Strategically.
Information was being used against people.
Lives were being manipulated.
And my existence became a target.
So I disappeared.
I chose a smaller life.
A quieter one.
A Walmart job.
A simple house.
No recognition.
No questions.
Tyler listened.
And looked ashamed.
Because he spent years mocking something he never understood.
The sergeant looked at me.
“You can’t stay hidden anymore.”
I knew.
I hated that he was right.
Then Dana found something else inside the tote bag.
A second envelope.
Not old.
Recent.
Someone had added it recently.
