Chapter 8 - The Name From The Past

The name changed the atmosphere.
I knew it.
The soldiers knew it.
Even Linda reacted.
That was the most important part.
She recognized it.
“You know.”
I looked at her.
She said nothing.
But her face answered.
Ryan stared at her.
“You knew too?”
That was the first time I saw him angry at someone besides Emily.
He realized he wasn’t the only person keeping secrets.
The soldier asked Linda questions.
She avoided them.
Carefully.
Too carefully.
Emily looked exhausted.
I sat beside her.
“You should have told me.”
She looked down.
“I thought I could handle it.”
That sentence hurt.
Because it sounded like me.
The same mistake.
The same instinct.
Carry everything alone.
The soldier opened the folder slightly.
Inside was a photograph.
He did not show it fully.
But Ryan saw enough.
