Morning light shone brightly through hospital room windows. Christmas Day had arrived with clear blue skies outside. Fresh white snow covered the ground like blanket. Emma was resting peacefully in her hospital bed. The doctor confirmed she could be discharged tomorrow morning. I sat in armchair beside bed, drinking coffee. Suddenly, a knock sounded on open wooden door. A middle-aged woman stepped into hospital room quietly. She wore a simple winter coat and warm scarf. It was Mrs. Gable, our mother's oldest friend. Mrs. Gable held a thick leather photo album. She walked over to Emma's bed with tears eyes. "Emma, Ethan, I heard news on television." "I am so sorry I didn't speak up sooner." Emma sat up, looking at Mrs. Gable confused. "What do you mean, Mrs. Gable?" Emma asked. Mrs. Gable set the photo album on bed. "Your mother knew Robert was dangerous three years ago." "She gave me a sealed envelope before she died." "She told me to keep it safe until today." Mrs. Gable pulled a heavy yellow envelope out. She handed the sealed envelope to my trembling hands. I broke the wax seal and opened letter. Inside was our mother's genuine, hand-written final will. The letter was witnessed by two independent lawyers. It clearly stated Robert was excluded from estate entirely. It named Emma and me as joint trust owners. It also revealed a hidden bank account in Boston. An account containing two million dollars in gold bonds. Our mother had secretly protected her children's future. She knew Robert might try to steal everything. She hid the real wealth where Robert couldn't touch. Tears of deep gratitude filled my eyes today. Our mother was watching over us all along. Even from beyond grave, her love protected us. Emma hugged Mrs. Gable tightly, crying tears joy. "Thank you for keeping her secret safe, Mrs. Gable." "Your mother loved you both more than life," she smiled. Everything was finally coming together for our family. Justice was served, and our inheritance was safe.
