Chapter 5 - Emergency Room Battle

Robert walked across hospital lobby with long strides. His high-priced defense attorney walked beside him. Attorney Vance carried a leather legal briefcase today. Robert looked at me with cold, triumphant eyes. "You made a scene at my house, Ethan." "But legal documents override your emotional whining every time." Attorney Vance stepped forward, opening his leather briefcase. He pulled out a signed legal court document. "Mr. Ethan, I am Attorney Vance," lawyer introduced. "My client holds full power attorney over Emma." "We are here to claim her medical records." "And we are filing a restraining order against you." My fists clenched tight at my flannel sides. I took two slow steps toward the corrupt lawyer. "She is in trauma care because he locked her!" Attorney Vance smiled condescendingly at my angry face. "That is an unproven accusation without legal weight." "My client claims Emma accidentally locked herself inside." "She was intoxicated and fell on garage floor." The blatant lies made my blood boil wildly. Emma didn't drink alcohol due to medical conditions. They were painting her as an unstable addict. They wanted to discredit her testimony in court. Suddenly, heavy glass entrance doors slid open again. Detective Miller walked into lobby with fast pace. He wore a long dark trench coat today. He carried the seized smart garage tablet bag. Two uniformed police officers walked right behind him. Detective Miller's sharp eyes scanned the lobby area. He spotted Robert and Attorney Vance near counter. Miller walked straight toward our standing group position. Robert adjusted his flannel shirt collar with confidence. Robert believed his wealth protected him from law. "Detective, good evening," Robert greeted with fake warmth. "I am glad you arrived to clear this up." "My stepson here has been harassing my family." Detective Miller did not smile or shake hands. He set the clear plastic evidence bag down. The smart garage tablet rested on glass table. Miller pulled a second tablet from his coat. "Mr. Robert Whitmore, we need to talk." "We just extracted data from your garage tablet." Robert's confident grin faltered for a second.
