Chapter 13 - Courtroom Justice

Six months passed quickly in the city of Boston.
The formal federal criminal trial convened on Monday morning.
Judge Harrison presided over the grand marble courtroom floor.
Reporters filled the wooden gallery benches behind us today.
Grant and Sarah Mercer sat at the defense table.
They wore bright orange prison jumpsuits and heavy chains.
Grant's dark hair was gray, messy, and completely unkempt.
Sarah hung her head low, sobbing continuously in cuffs.
Their defense attorneys offered zero valid defense against audio.
The audio recording from my device was played in court.
The medical X-rays and basement photos were submitted as proof.
The jury listened in absolute, horrified, dead silence today.
After only ten short minutes of private deliberation,
The jury returned to the courtroom with a verdict.
The jury foreman stood up, holding official paper file.
"On count one, felony torture, we find guilty."
"On count two, child endangerment, we find guilty."
"On count three, federal wire fraud, guilty."
Judge Harrison slammed his wooden gavel down hard today.
"Grant Mercer, you are sentenced to life in prison."
"Life without possibility of parole in maximum security."
"Sarah Mercer, you are sentenced to twenty years prison."
"Guards, remove the prisoners from my courtroom now!"
Grant let out a loud, blood-curdling shriek of defeat.
Bailiffs dragged Grant and Sarah out the side doors.
Their weeping cries faded down the long marble hallway.
Justice was finally delivered to the evil couple today.
