Chapter 9 - The Cloud Backup

Detective Thomas pulled out his secure military mobile device.
He opened a secondary digital data file on the screen.
"Your client Grant didn't just commit local assault, Arthur."
"He used interstate wire networks to move stolen trust funds."
"The FBI opened a high-priority federal investigation two hours ago."
"And I hold a federal arrest warrant signed by Magistrate."
Arthur Vance's face went completely ghost white in seconds.
His expensive legal paper fell from his trembling hands.
He realized his high-priced corporate legal defense failed.
Grant's bail was completely revoked by federal authority.
"Where is Grant Mercer right now, Arthur?" Thomas asked.
"He... he is parked in the lower parking garage," Arthur.
Detective Thomas pressed his shoulder radio button fast.
"All units in sector four, move on target vehicle."
"Black SUV parked in lower hospital parking structure bay."
"Subject is armed, dangerous, and facing federal charges."
Through the hospital window glass, sirens echoed down street.
Four black FBI tactical vehicles pulled into the parking lot.
Red and blue emergency lights flashed across concrete walls.
A loud gunshot echoed from the lower parking structure below.
Screams erupted from visitors walking in the parking lot.
My heart pounded violently against my bruised chest ribs.
Grant was firing his weapon at approaching police officers.
He was not going down to prison without a fight.
"Stay inside this room, girls!" Doctor Ruiz ordered.
She locked the heavy metal treatment room door once again.
Detective Thomas ran out the door toward the staircase.
Inside the room, Lily and I clutched each other's hands.
The sound of heavy gunfire echoed from the garage.
Sparks of gunfire lit up the dark lower window.
