Chapter 4 - The Audio Confession
Officer Davis walked over to my rolling hospital gurney fast.
He carefully took the small black digital recording device.
He plugged the device into his official police tablet unit.
A high-definition audio playback application opened on the screen.
Officer Davis pressed the master play icon on the display.
The raw, unedited audio recording played loudly through speakers.
Grant's booming, furious voice echoed across the silent trauma room:
"You useless little bitches think you can defy me?"
Sound of a heavy leather belt striking skin echoed clearly.
Lily's piercing, blood-curdling scream echoed through the room next:
"Please, Grant! Stop hitting us! We'll do the chores!"
Grant's recorded voice roared back: "Shut up or I'll kill you!"
"No doctor will ever save you from me!"
The horrific audio evidence played for three full, painful minutes.
It recorded every single brutal blow delivered to our bodies.
It recorded my mother Sarah standing nearby, whispering quietly:
"Grant, don't leave marks on their faces this time."
Silence fell over the hospital trauma room like heavy lead.
Nurses covered their mouths, crying tears of pure horror today.
Doctor Ruiz glared at Grant with pure, righteous, lethal fury.
Officer Davis's jaw tightened into a rigid, rock-solid line.
He turned his head slowly toward Grant and Sarah Mercer.
My mother Sarah collapsed onto the tile floor sobbing hysterically.
"Grant forced me to say that!" Sarah shrieked out.
"He threatened to kill me if I stopped him!"
Grant turned on Sarah with pure, venomous, cornered rage.
"Shut your mouth, you pathetic coward!" Grant screamed at her.
Officer Davis drew his heavy steel handcuffs from his belt.
"Grant Mercer, put your hands behind your back right now!"
"You are under arrest for two counts of felony torture."
