Chapter 11 - The Affair Preston Denied
Preston insisted there had been no affair.
Elena believed him at first.
Not because she trusted him.
Because Khloe’s obsession did not require a physical relationship.
Then investigators recovered hotel records.
Preston and Khloe attended a medical conference in Atlanta.
They had separate rooms.
But hallway footage showed Khloe entering Preston’s room after midnight.
She remained there for two hours.
Preston claimed they discussed a presentation.
Khloe’s phone contained photographs taken inside the room.
In one, Preston slept shirtless beneath hotel sheets.
Another showed Khloe’s hand resting against his chest.
He may not have known the photographs existed.
But he knew she had stayed.
Elena received the evidence from her divorce attorney.
She felt almost nothing.
The emotional betrayal had begun long before the hotel.
It began when Preston made Khloe’s comfort more important than Elena’s truth.
Whether he kissed the intern no longer changed the central fact.
Still, she asked him during a monitored hospital meeting.
“Did you sleep with her?”
Preston looked through the glass partition.
“No.”
“Did you let her into your room?”
“She was upset.”
“Did she get into your bed?”
“I fell asleep.”
Elena stared at him.
“You always have an explanation that begins after your own choice.”
He lowered his head.
“I was lonely.”
“I was pregnant.”
“You hated me.”
“I questioned you.”
“You treated me like an enemy.”
“Because you behaved like one.”
Preston began crying.
He said he never wanted Elena hurt.
He said he only wanted her to apologize to Khloe.
He said the labor plan was meant to force a conversation, not cause danger.
Elena listened.
Then she asked, “When I said the baby could not fit, what did you think?”
Preston’s mouth opened.
Nothing came out.
“You knew my pelvic history.”
“I thought you were afraid.”
“I was medically correct.”
He looked away.
Elena continued.
“You did not mistake fear for error. You chose to call me irrational because it gave you permission to ignore me.”
The meeting ended.
Elena filed for divorce that afternoon.
She also requested sole custody of Gabriel.
Preston objected.
He claimed that despite his professional mistakes, he remained the child’s father.
