Chapter 13 - The Wedding Guests Choose Sides

For three days, the wedding guests said nothing.
They had watched Richard shove Evelyn.
They had watched Penelope laugh.
They had recorded it.
Still, most feared losing business, invitations, or social standing.
Then Richard made a mistake.
He demanded loyalty publicly.
Every guest received a message from Vale Development’s attorney.
The message warned them not to share footage and suggested anyone cooperating with Blake could face legal consequences.
Several guests panicked.
One deleted her video.
Another called Richard to promise silence.
But the young server who captured the clearest angle had no business relationship to protect.
Her name was Mia Torres.
She worked two jobs while studying nursing.
Richard’s attorney offered her ten thousand dollars for her phone.
She refused.
The next day, the catering company fired her.
The owner claimed a scheduling issue.
Daniel traced a payment from Vale Development to the catering company that same morning.
When Evelyn learned what happened, she became furious.
Richard was punishing a young woman for telling the truth.
Blake offered Mia legal protection and temporary employment.
Evelyn went further.
She asked Mia whether she would permit the full video to be released.
Mia nodded.
“He pushed you because he thought nobody would stop him.”
“People may attack you online.”
“They already got me fired.”
The complete fountain video went public that evening.
It spread across Miami within minutes.
Richard’s insult.
The forceful shove.
Evelyn’s fall.
Penelope’s applause.
Margaret’s warning.
Blake’s arrival.
Nothing was edited.
Nothing needed explanation.
Guests who had remained silent began sharing their own recordings to protect themselves.
One clip showed Penelope directing a bridesmaid to damage Evelyn’s heel.
Another showed Richard demanding the name of Evelyn’s “benefactor.”
A third captured Penelope whispering, “Push her out if she won’t talk.”
Public opinion changed instantly.
The family’s carefully written statement collapsed.
Jonathan Mercer removed Penelope’s name from his social media profile.
But he did not defend Evelyn.
Instead, he claimed he had known nothing.
Lauren publicly contradicted him.
