Chapter 2 - The Decisive Walkout

The heavy cardboard cake box smashed open wide.

Chocolate frosting smeared across the clean wood floor.

The sudden loud crash silenced the entire kitchen.

My mother Teresa gasped, dropping her wine glass.

The glass shattered into tiny pieces near sink.

Teresa stared at me with shock and anger.

"Connor! Look at the mess you just made!"

"That cake cost two hundred dollars from bakery!"

I ignored her shrill, demanding voice completely now.

I strode forward with heavy, purposeful boot steps.

I reached the sink in three fast strides.

I gently lifted little Frederick into my arms.

His skin felt burning hot against my chest.

His tiny head rested weakly against my shoulder.

I reached out my free hand toward Amy.

I grabbed Amy's wet wrist with firm strength.

I pulled her up to her standing feet.

Soapy water dripped from her trembling fingers onto floor.

"We're leaving. Now." I said in a voice.

My words echoed loudly across the silent room.

Amy looked at me with wide, terrified eyes.

Her pale body was trembling like a leaf.

She pulled back slightly against my hand grip.

"Your mother will be angry..." Amy whispered softly.

"She will ruin everything we built together, Connor."

"She will take our house away from us."

Teresa stepped forward, her face turning dark red.

She pointed an angry finger directly at face.

"You are not going anywhere, Connor!" Teresa shouted.

"Put that child back in his crib now!"

"Amy needs to finish cleaning up this kitchen!"

"Our family guests are waiting for dessert outside!"

I looked at my mother with total coldness.

"Touch my wife again, and you will regret."

I wrapped my large arm around Amy's waist.

I pulled her close against my side frame.

I shielded both of them with my body.

We walked toward the front entrance hallway door.

Teresa ran after us, shouting hysterical threats.

"You are an ungrateful son, Connor!" she yelled.

"I paid for your college engineering degree!"

"I bought this house for you to live!"

"You owe your entire life to my generosity!"

Family guests rushed inside from the backyard deck.

My uncle Richard blocked the narrow hallway exit.

"Listen to your mother, Connor," Richard ordered.

"Do not cause a scene in front everyone."

I stepped right into Richard's personal space.

My broad engineering frame towered over his body.

"Move out of my way, Richard," I growled.

My voice carried a lethal, unyielding military threat.

Richard swallowed hard and backed away quickly today.

Amy clutched the edge of my plaid shirt.

Her tears soaked through my cotton fabric sleeve.

We reached the heavy oak front door space.

Teresa grabbed the handle to block the door.

Her eyes burned with wild, unhinged controlling fury.

"You step outside, and you are cut off!"

"I will strip your name from family trust!"

I reached into my plaid shirt pocket fast.
