Chapter 5 - Medical Emergency
Teresa lunged across the hallway to snatch phone.
I shifted my body sideways, blocking her reach.
My shoulder struck her chest, sending her back.
She stumbled onto the hardwood floor with force.
Her expensive silk dress tore at the seam.
"You crazy fool!" Teresa screamed from the floor.
"You are going to ruin our family name!"
"The police will drag our reputation through mud!"
I ignored her screams and spoke to dispatcher.
"Address is four twelve Willow Creek Lane, hurry."
"The suspect is still inside the residence now."
Amy sank onto her knees beside my boots.
She stroked little Frederick's burning, sweaty cheeks gently.
"Hang on, baby," Amy wept softly through tears.
"Daddy is getting help for you right now."
Sirens wailed in the distance two minutes later.
Red and blue lights flashed through front windows.
An emergency ambulance pulled into our driveway fast.
Two armed police cruisers stopped right behind it.
Paramedics rushed through the front door with gear.
A male paramedic knelt beside Amy on floor.
"What happened to the child, sir?" paramedic.
I handed him the formula bottle from kitchen.
"He was given formula tampered with heavy sedatives."
"His temperature is over one hundred and two."
The paramedic checked Frederick's pulse and breathing speed.
"His heart rate is dangerously slow!" paramedic shouted.
"We need to transport him to pediatric trauma!"
They placed a tiny oxygen mask over face.
They strapped Frederick onto the small rolling gurney.
Amy stood up, refusing to leave his side.
"I am riding in the ambulance with him!"
"Ma'am, get in the back!" paramedic ordered.
Teresa scrambled up from floor, putting on mask.
She put on a pitiful, crying grandmother face.
"Officer! Thank God you arrived in time today!"
Teresa cried to the entering police officers fast.
"My daughter-in-law gave my grandson bad medication!"
"She is mentally unstable and tried to poison!"
Officer Davis stepped forward with a black notebook.
