Chapter 12 - The Trust Restored

We walked out of the courthouse onto steps.

Bright afternoon sunshine bathed the stone plaza below.

Fresh cool air filled my lungs as smiled.

Sarah held my right arm, smiling through tears.

Little Lily walked between us, holding both hands.

Her arm bandages were completely gone today.

She looked healthy, happy, and full of life.

"We are finally free, Daddy," Lily whispered.

"Nobody can ever hurt our family again now."

"Nobody, my sweet baby," I replied softly.

The court officially unlocked the five-million-dollar trust.

The entire inheritance was placed in a vault.

A secure account managed jointly by Sarah and me.

Lily's educational future was protected for life.

We decided to leave the old city behind.

We sold the suburban house on Willow Lane.

We bought a beautiful new home near coast.

A modern three-story house surrounded by green trees.

Far away from the toxic memories of past.

Two months passed peacefully in our coastal home.

I opened my own independent structural engineering firm.

Sarah opened a private children's art studio.

Color and full physical strength returned to Lily.

She laughed and played on the beach daily.

Everything seemed safe, secure, and perfectly complete.

Tonight was a quiet, warm evening in late summer.

The sunset painted the sky in pink gold.

Sarah and I sat on the porch drinking tea.

Lily was fast asleep in her bedroom upstairs.

A mail courier van pulled up to driveway.

The driver stepped out holding a brown package.

"Delivery for Mr. Daniel Harper," driver called.

I walked down porch steps, signing digital pad.

"Thank you," I said, taking small box.

The cardboard package had no return address listed.

I walked back to the wooden porch table.
