Chapter 2 - The Interrogation Trap

The heavy iron door slammed shut behind my back.

I sat inside the cold, dim interrogation room.

Handcuffs chained my wrists tightly to metal table.

Bright overhead lamps shone directly into my eyes.

Officer Davis threw a thick manila folder down.

"Save your breath, Daniel," Officer Davis growled.

"We have all the evidence we need today."

"I didn't burn my daughter!" I shouted back.

"My wife Kate locked her in the bathroom!"

Officer Davis opened the folder with a sneer.

He slid three color photographs across the table.

The photos showed my personal smart phone screen.

Text messages sent from my number to Kate:

"She disrespected me, so I scalded her."

"If you tell anyone, you are next, Kate."

My jaw dropped in sheer, absolute, terrifying shock.

"I never sent those text messages!" I screamed.

"She had access to my phone last night!"

Officer Davis pulled out an audio tape recorder.

He pressed the play button with his thumb.

A recorded 911 emergency call played out loud.

My own voice echoed through the cold room:

"I lost my temper and burned my kid."

My heart stopped beating inside my chest frame.

Kate had used artificial intelligence voice cloning software.

She generated a fake confession using my voice.

She created an ironclad digital trail against me.

"Kate called 911 twenty minutes later," Davis said.

"She reported finding Lily screaming in the tub."

"She claimed she tried to stop your attack."

"Her statement matches the medical burn patterns exactly."

I leaned back against the hard metal chair.

Sweat poured down my face, soaking my hoodie.

The trap was executed with terrifying precision today.

No officer in this precinct would believe me.

To the law, I was a monster father.

To the world, Kate was a protective hero.

I needed to get out on bail fast.

I needed to find physical proof of forgery.

Before Kate erased the real crime scene evidence.

"I want my lawyer right now, Davis," I.

Officer Davis chuckled coldly, gathering his paper files.

"Call whoever you want, Daniel," Davis spat out.

"You are never seeing your daughter ever again."

He walked out, locking the heavy steel door.

I stared at the metal table in darkness.

My mind raced through every detail of house.

Kate believed she had covered every single angle.
