Chapter 14 - The Baby’s Name
Vanessa asked Claire one question that had nothing to do with money.
“What are you naming the baby?”
Claire hesitated.
“Ethan.”
Vanessa closed her eyes.
Michael had told her he wanted to name their future son Ethan.
He described it as a family name.
It was not.
It was the name Claire had chosen after her first miscarriage.
Michael had taken one of the most private pieces of their marriage and used it to create intimacy with another woman.
Vanessa’s grief changed.
Until then, she might have believed part of Michael’s relationship with her was real.
Now she saw he had recycled Claire’s hopes.
The ring.
The promises.
The child’s name.
Even the honeymoon destination had once been Claire’s dream.
