Chapter 16 - The Father’s Arrangement
Robert had arranged three things before Claire entered the venue.
First, he contacted Claire’s attorney, who filed an emergency request to freeze the suspicious account.
Second, he notified the bank’s fraud department that Michael might attempt additional withdrawals.
Third, he arranged for an investigator to wait outside with copies of the evidence.
He did not call uniformed police because Claire wanted to avoid chaos unless Michael became violent or tried to flee.
Robert also had a car ready to take Claire directly to the hospital if necessary.
He hated allowing his pregnant daughter to confront Michael.
But Claire refused to remain hidden.
“He has controlled every room with secrets,” she told him.
“I need one room where everyone sees the same truth.”
Robert agreed on one condition.
She would not open the envelope herself if she felt physically unwell.
