Chapter 9 - The ATM Card
Claire placed Michael’s ATM card on top of the closed ring box.
It had been found beside their bed.
Michael must have dropped it while packing.
The bank confirmed the card was used for several wedding purchases.
He had probably entered the account through Claire’s saved phone credentials.
But the card held another significance.
Two weeks earlier, Michael told Claire he had lost it.
He asked her to order a replacement and provide the new number.
Claire refused because the account had recently shown unusual activity.
Michael became angry.
He called her controlling.
Then he found the old card and used it in secret.
The card proved planning.
It showed he knew the withdrawals were unauthorized.
The lead wedding coordinator quietly asked whether police should be called.
Claire’s father answered:
“They’re already aware.”
Michael heard him.
His eyes moved toward the parking area.
