Chapter 10 - The Threat in the Aisle

The judge called a short recess to review whether the recording could be admitted.
Sophie was escorted to a side room with a court-appointed advocate.
Rebecca remained beside Allison.
Daniel crossed the aisle.
His attorney told him to stop.
He ignored her.
“You did this,” he whispered to Rebecca.
She faced him.
“I did not know about the recording.”
“You turned her against me.”
“No. You frightened her.”
Daniel stepped closer.
His polished courtroom expression disappeared.
“You think that uniform makes you powerful?”
Rebecca could smell coffee on his breath.
Allison called for the deputy.
Daniel grabbed Rebecca’s jaw.
The contact was sudden, but the movement revealed everything.
Possession.
Contempt.
Certainty that she would remain still to protect appearances.
“Those medals won’t save you.”
The courtroom froze.
Rebecca’s injured shoulder pulled under the pressure.
She raised her hand.
Removed his wrist.
“Take your hand off a United States officer.”
Daniel stumbled backward.
The deputy moved between them.
Margaret stood.
“She provoked him!”
Several spectators reacted with disbelief.
Daniel’s own attorney closed her eyes.
The judge returned through the side door just in time to see the deputy restraining Daniel from advancing again.
“Sit down,” the judge ordered.
Daniel tried to recover.
“This is being manipulated.”
The judge looked toward the courtroom cameras and the deputy’s body camera.
“No, Mr. Hale. It was recorded.”
Daniel sat.
For the first time, fear entered his eyes.
He had spent months describing Rebecca as physically dangerous.
May you like
Then he placed his hand on her face in open court.
👉 When Sophie’s audio began playing, Daniel’s own voice proved the assault was not an isolated loss of control.
