Chapter 12 - The Buyer
The development company was controlled by one of Ryan’s creditors.
The planned sale was not a normal transaction.
It was a debt settlement.
Ryan would transfer the lake house.
The creditor would forgive his loans.
A luxury resort would replace the property within two years.
William stared at the lake as Maya explained.
“You said you wanted to keep it in the family,” he told Ryan.
Ryan answered:
“I was saving what I could.”
“You were selling it.”
“I had no choice.”
Claire stepped forward.
“You had many choices. You chose mine.”
Ryan looked at her with resentment.
“You have millions in projects.”
“I have contracts, employees, payroll, and debt.”
“You could spare this place.”
“It is not yours to measure what I can spare.”
William looked older with every sentence.
He had gambled his relationship with Claire to protect Ryan.
And Ryan had used that loyalty to protect himself.
The buyer’s draft contract contained another problem.
It included a statement claiming Claire had abandoned the property.
That explained the urgency of moving furniture inside.
Ryan needed evidence of possession.
He planned to photograph the movers unloading.
