Chapter 10 - The Affair Was the Distraction
The video Clara initially received had not come from Madison.
It came from Margaret.
Before losing consciousness, Margaret had scheduled an automated message.
She suspected Evan would meet someone after leaving her house.
Her hidden camera had captured part of a conversation days earlier in which Evan mentioned Madison and the restaurant.
Margaret programmed her security system to send Clara the restaurant footage if her medical monitor detected a fall and Evan failed to call emergency services.
The affair was not the evidence.
It was the distraction that kept Evan away from the hospital while Margaret’s files were being moved.
Someone else entered the house after Evan left.
The hallway recording showed only a figure in medical scrubs.
The person knew where the remaining documents were stored.
They removed the original medication bottle and replaced it with the altered one.
Madison recognized the figure’s posture.
“That’s my brother.”
