Chapter 15 - The Confession Written in My Name

Dr. Price’s supposed suicide note claimed I had paid him to transfer my eggs because I wanted Chloe to carry a baby secretly.

It said I later panicked and accused Julian when the arrangement became public.

The note transformed me from victim into mastermind.

My full name appeared at the bottom.

So did a copy of my signature.

The same forged signature used at the clinic.

Evelyn’s attorney immediately filed it with the family court.

News outlets picked up the story.

A headline called me “the heiress who regretted her secret surrogacy.”

I wanted to respond publicly.

Rachel stopped me.

“Evidence will outlast headlines.”

Forensic investigators found no residue from the pills supposedly used by Dr. Price.

His motel door lock recorded entry by another person forty minutes before his death.

Security footage had been erased.

But a traffic camera captured a dark sedan leaving the motel.

The plate belonged to Martin Hale’s company.

Martin was already in custody.

Someone else had access to the vehicle.

Police searched his storage warehouse.

They found a printing station, blank clinic forms, signature samples, and drafts of the fake confession.

They also found a ledger of payments.

One recipient appeared under the initials J.M.

Julian Mercer.

The final payment was made two days before Dr. Price died.

Julian’s attorney claimed it was unrelated.

Prosecutors confronted him.

After six hours, he admitted contacting Dr. Price from jail through a third party.

He said he wanted Price to sign a statement clearing him.

He denied ordering murder.

“Who was the third party?” I asked Rachel.

She showed me the name.

Chloe Bennett.

My sister had visited Julian’s attorney the day before Price died.

When I confronted her, Chloe looked terrified.

“I didn’t know anyone would hurt him.”

“But you carried the message.”

“Yes.”

“What message?”

She whispered, “Julian said Evelyn had one last person outside.”

👉 Chloe had unknowingly activated Evelyn’s final accomplice, and that person was still free.
