The clinic offered $3.5 million if I signed a nondisclosure agreement.
Rachel read the proposal.
“They want this buried.”
“They destroyed my consent process and called it an administrative failure.”
The investigation revealed that Dr. Price had forged approvals for wealthy clients before.
Staff members reported concerns.
Administrators ignored them because his procedures generated millions in revenue.
Teresa Cole had accessed patient files for Evelyn.
No system flagged repeated downloads.
My eggs moved between facilities without direct verbal confirmation from me.
Every safeguard existed on paper.
Almost none existed in practice.
I filed a civil lawsuit.
Chloe joined as a plaintiff.
The clinic’s attorneys tried to divide us.
They offered Chloe a separate settlement if she admitted she knowingly entered a private surrogacy arrangement.
She refused.
At the public hearing, I told lawmakers:
“Consent cannot be a signature someone checks after the procedure. Consent must belong to the person whose body and genetic material are being used.”
Chloe testified next.
“Desperation made me easy to manipulate. But the clinic had a duty to ask questions I was afraid to ask.”
The case drew national attention.
Other patients came forward.
Some discovered embryos had been mislabeled.
Others learned stored genetic material had been released without proper verification.
The clinic lost its license.
Its parent company agreed to a $42 million victims’ fund and mandatory biometric consent protocols.
My portion of the settlement was substantial.
I placed most of it into a foundation for fertility fraud victims.
The foundation offered legal help, genetic testing, therapy, and emergency grants.
Chloe volunteered after completing court-ordered counseling.
She never presented herself as innocent.
She told every group, “I was harmed, and I also harmed someone else.”
That honesty slowly rebuilt something between us.
Not the old sisterhood.
