Chapter 27 - Dale’s Sentence

Dale showed no remorse during sentencing.

He described the dogs as property.

He argued that breeding was a business and the storm had caused the deaths, not him.

The judge rejected the claim.

“You tied a mother beside her puppies and left nature to perform the cruelty you were unwilling to admit.”

Dale received a lengthy prison sentence and a permanent ban on owning or working with animals.

Restitution funded veterinary treatment for the recovered dogs.

Rebecca testified.

Walter did not.

He believed the photographs and records said enough.

When a reporter asked how he felt about the sentence, Walter answered:

“I hope people stop asking why the dog didn’t run and start asking why someone believed he had the right to tie her there.”
