Grace disappeared from the Whitmore estate in September.
Rebecca had returned from work to find the side gate open.
Her father claimed a delivery driver left it unsecured.
They searched for weeks.
Posters went up across the county.
Charles Whitmore offered a ten-thousand-dollar reward.
No one found Grace.
Rebecca eventually hired a private investigator.
The investigator discovered something unusual.
A security camera near the estate had been disabled for seventeen minutes on the afternoon Grace vanished.
The camera controlled the rear service road.
Only three people had access to the system.
Rebecca.
Her father.
And the estate manager, Dale Mercer.
Dale claimed he had been in town.
Charles claimed the outage was a technical failure.
Rebecca wanted police involved.
Her father persuaded her to wait.
“Our family has already attracted enough attention,” he said.
At the time, Whitmore Construction was negotiating a major county contract.
A scandal involving stolen property could jeopardize the deal.
Rebecca agreed reluctantly.
Now Grace had returned with puppies and a rope around her body.
