Chapter 11 - The First Marriage

Investigators uncovered a marriage certificate from Nevada.

Trevor Hayes had married a woman named Danielle Pierce thirteen years earlier.

The marriage had never been legally dissolved.

His marriage to Rebecca was invalid.

Danielle lived under another name in Arizona.

When police contacted her, she began crying.

“Is Rebecca alive?”

The question chilled everyone.

Danielle had fled Trevor after years of abuse.

She believed he would kill her if she reported him.

He told friends she had died from an overdose.

Danielle had a twelve-year-old son.

Trevor’s son.

He had never paid support.

The stolen embryos were meant for Danielle’s sister, who owed Trevor money and had agreed to act as a surrogate.

Olivia had discovered the arrangement only after helping move the medical case.

Trevor promised each woman a different future.

To Rebecca, he presented himself as a devoted husband.

To Olivia, he claimed he would divorce Rebecca.

To Danielle’s sister, he promised debt forgiveness and a home.

Every relationship was built around control.

Rebecca spoke with Danielle by video.

The older woman studied the bruises on Rebecca’s face.

“He always says you made him do it.”

Rebecca nodded.

“He said I fell down the stairs.”

Danielle closed her eyes.

“He said the same about me.”

Their stories matched in painful detail.

Danielle agreed to testify.

Then she revealed something else.

Trevor’s violence had once killed an unborn child.

The death had been recorded as an accident.
