Chapter 7 - Emma Disappears

Rebecca screamed for help.

The nurse who had been watching Emma lay unconscious inside a supply room.

Hospital security footage showed a woman in medical scrubs entering the pediatric family wing.

The woman removed Emma through a service elevator.

Her face was partially hidden.

Rebecca recognized her walk.

Olivia.

Trevor had distracted everyone with the phone call while Olivia took the child.

The hospital locked down.

Police searched exits, parking garages, and nearby roads.

A camera captured Olivia placing Emma into a black SUV.

Trevor sat behind the wheel.

The vehicle headed toward the interstate.

Rebecca tried to leave the hospital.

Her injured ribs made her collapse.

Richard caught her.

“You cannot chase them yourself.”

“That is my daughter.”

“I know.”

“No, Dad. You do not know what it feels like to hear her cry and be unable to reach her.”

Richard’s face broke.

“You are right.”

He helped her back onto the bed.

Then he handed Detective Ortiz access to the Lawson company’s private aviation network.

“If Trevor plans to leave the country, he will need money or transport.”

Investigators froze accounts connected to him.

Airports received alerts.

The stolen SUV was found abandoned near an industrial district.

Emma’s teddy rabbit lay on the back seat.

Rebecca pressed it against her chest when police brought it to her.

A navigation device showed a recent destination.

An old Hayes Construction warehouse near the river.

Police surrounded the property.

Inside, they found signs of hurried departure.

A child’s juice box.

Olivia’s medical disguise.

And blood on the floor.

But no Emma.
