Chapter 19 - The Clinic’s Final Theft

Rebecca had never been unfaithful.
The fertility clinic investigated immediately.
Her pregnancy had followed an embryo transfer performed before Trevor’s behavior became openly violent.
Records showed the implanted embryo did not match the one Rebecca and Trevor created.
Someone switched it.
The embryo was genetically Rebecca’s, but the male genetic material belonged to an anonymous donor.
The original embryo was among those removed for Olivia.
Trevor had arranged the switch.
Why?
The Lawson trust required biological descendants of Rebecca, not Trevor.
By using a donor, Trevor could conceal another crime connected to his own fertility history.
Medical testing revealed Trevor carried a rare genetic condition.
Any biological son had a high risk of developing it.
He feared the condition would weaken the financial value of a male heir.
Rebecca stared at the report.
“He evaluated children like investments.”
The donor had consented to legitimate fertility use and knew nothing about the switch.
Matthew remained Rebecca’s son in every legal and emotional sense.
The clinic faced criminal investigation for allowing forged authorizations.
Rebecca chose not to pursue the original embryo.
It had not yet been implanted.
The court ordered it preserved until she decided its future.
Olivia had never been pregnant.
Trevor manipulated her into believing she would carry his child while planning to give the embryo to the illegal adoption network.
She had been both accomplice and target.
Olivia agreed to testify.

Her cooperation would not erase the kidnapping.
But it would expose Trevor completely.
