Chapter 5 - The Other House
Detective Lena Ortiz returned to the hospital that evening.
Trevor had been released pending a formal charging decision because he claimed Rebecca attacked him first.
His attorney presented photographs of scratches on his neck.
Rebecca remembered trying to push him away while protecting Emma.
“He will come for us,” she said.
Lena helped Richard arrange emergency protection.
Trevor was ordered to stay away from Rebecca, Emma, and the Lawson family residence.
Then Richard showed the detective the audit.
The private property appeared under the name Olivia Grant.
Rebecca recognized it.
Olivia worked as Trevor’s executive assistant.
Trevor often praised her loyalty.
He said she was “like family.”
Investigators searched public records.
The house had been purchased eighteen months earlier using funds transferred from Rebecca’s inheritance.
Utilities were paid by Hayes Construction.
Richard hired a licensed investigator to observe the property.
Olivia arrived after midnight.
Trevor arrived thirty minutes later.
Despite the protective order, he had gone directly from the police station to another woman.
Rebecca watched the photographs on Richard’s tablet.
She expected jealousy.
Instead, she felt relief.
The affair explained only part of Trevor’s behavior, but it destroyed the final excuse she had made for him.
He had not become violent because he was stressed.
He had not lost control because she disappointed him.
He made choices.
Again and again.
Lena advised Rebecca not to confront him.
“I won’t.”
Rebecca looked at Emma sleeping beside her.
“I’m done asking him why.”
The investigator sent another image.
Trevor carried a black metal case into Olivia’s house.
The case bore the logo of a private fertility clinic.
