Chapter 9 - The Lake Cabin

Police positioned themselves in the woods around the cabin.

Rebecca wore a hidden microphone beneath her hospital sweater.

Her bruises remained visible.

Trevor wanted to see what he had done.

Richard tried to stop her.

“He is unstable.”

“He has Emma.”

“You are pregnant.”

“That is why I cannot let him decide what happens next.”

Rebecca walked toward the cabin alone.

The front door opened.

Trevor held Emma in one arm and a handgun in the other.

Olivia sat tied to a chair behind him.

Her lower lip was bleeding.

“You brought police,” Trevor said.

“You knew I would.”

He looked at the trees.

“If they come closer, this ends badly.”

Rebecca kept her voice steady.

“Give me Emma.”

“Sign first.”

A stack of documents lay on a table.

They transferred the Lawson trust, custody rights, and company shares to Trevor.

Rebecca picked up the pen.

“Let Emma walk to me.”

“No.”

“You cannot hold her and watch me sign.”

Trevor considered it.

Then he placed Emma on the floor.

“Walk to Mommy.”

Emma ran.

Rebecca dropped the pen and fell to her knees, wrapping both arms around her daughter.

Trevor raised the gun.

“You lied to me.”

Police shouted from outside.

Olivia kicked the table into Trevor’s legs.

The gun fired.

A window shattered.

Rebecca covered Emma with her body.

Officers stormed the cabin.

Trevor ran through the back door.

Richard, who had moved closer despite orders, stood directly in his path.
