Chapter 8 - Olivia Calls

Olivia called Rebecca directly.

Her voice shook.

“I did not know he was going to hurt you.”

“Where is Emma?”

“She is safe.”

“Let me hear her.”

A pause followed.

Then Emma cried, “Mommy.”

Rebecca closed her eyes.

“I’m here, baby.”

Trevor took the phone.

“You withdrew money that belongs to our family.”

“It was mine.”

“You are my wife.”

“Not anymore.”

His breathing changed.

“You think you can leave and take everything?”

“You took my daughter.”

“She is my daughter too.”

“She is terrified.”

Trevor lowered his voice.

“Sign control of the trust to me. Withdraw the assault complaint. Tell your father to stop the audit.”

“And then?”

“We become a family again.”

Rebecca almost laughed.

“You punched me while I was holding her.”

“You made me angry.”

There it was.

No apology.

No regret.

Only blame.

Rebecca kept him talking while police traced the call.

“Where is Olivia?”

Trevor did not answer.

Rebecca heard a woman sobbing in the background.

Then Olivia shouted, “He has a gun!”

The call ended.

Detective Ortiz traced the signal to a rural lake property.

Richard recognized the address.

The cabin belonged to a shell company connected to Trevor’s construction business.

Police began moving.

Rebecca insisted on joining the command vehicle.

Lena initially refused.

Then Trevor sent a photograph.

Emma sat on the cabin floor.
