The voice cracked with panic.

“Lead vehicle disabled! Weston is down! We are pinned! They have us boxed in!”
The tactical operations center erupted.
Men shouted coordinates.
Vance barked for a quick reaction force.
The mortar alarm began screaming.
I grabbed my trauma bag.
A sergeant blocked the door with one arm.
“Doc, no. That’s an active kill zone.”
