He studied the base layout while I studied him.
Now he was watching Marines bleed.
Miller grabbed my arm.
“Doc?”
I looked at him.
He saw my eyes.
His hand fell away.
“Oh,” he said quietly. “Hell.”
I moved to the edge of the wall, settled behind the rifle, and breathed out.
The first shot cracked through the canyon.
The shooter on the left ridge dropped out of sight.
No one spoke.
The second shot took the spotter’s radio.
The third shattered the rock inches from the second gunman’s face, forcing him down.
Miller stared.
Briggs whispered, “What the…”
