Then I saw Weston.
He was on his side near the lead vehicle.
One hand still gripping his rifle case.
Blood spreading across his shoulder.
I crawled to Weston through gravel and smoke.
His eyes found mine.
“Doc,” he rasped, “tell me you can fix arrogant.”
“Not with what’s in my bag.”
He tried to laugh and coughed.
His rifle lay half under the vehicle.
