Chapter 10 - The Other Son

The child’s name was Caleb.

He was eleven years old.

His mother, Erin Walsh, lived twenty miles from the Mercer home.

Daniel had paid her monthly through a fake consulting company.

Caroline studied a photograph Madison provided.

Caleb had Daniel’s eyes.

The dates were unmistakable.

Daniel began the affair with Erin four years before Noah was born.

Caroline contacted Erin through Lena.

They met in a quiet park.

Erin appeared guarded.

“I didn’t know he was married when we met.”

“When did you learn?”

“After I became pregnant.”

“And you stayed silent?”

“He threatened to take Caleb if I caused problems.”

Daniel used company funds to pay support while hiding the child from investors and Caroline.

Erin showed messages in which he promised to recognize Caleb publicly after divorcing Caroline.

“He said Noah was too sensitive to inherit the company,” Erin said.

Caroline felt anger, but not toward the boy.

“Does Caleb know about Noah?”

“Yes.”

“Does he want to meet him?”

“He wants a father who doesn’t hide him.”

Caroline understood that pain.

Daniel had deprived two boys in different ways.

He removed Noah’s room while erasing Caleb’s existence.

Erin agreed to cooperate in the financial investigation.

She also revealed Daniel had purchased a second house under a shell company.

Madison believed it was meant for her.

Erin believed Daniel promised it to Caleb.

Property records showed neither was correct.
