Chapter 19 - Patricia Under Oath
Patricia testified before a grand jury.
She claimed Daniel acted alone.
Prosecutors showed her emails approving transfers from Noah’s account.
She called them misunderstandings.
They showed her the shell-company property deed.
She blamed Daniel’s accountant.
Then Madison’s recording played.
Patricia’s voice was unmistakable.
Caroline won’t challenge the signatures. She has no idea how the company works anymore.
Daniel replied:
That’s why I made her quit.
Patricia’s expression changed.
She had not merely protected her son after crimes occurred.
She had helped isolate Caroline so fraud would be easier.
Federal prosecutors charged Patricia with conspiracy, bank fraud, and obstruction.
She called Caroline from her attorney’s office.
“This could put me in prison.”
Caroline remained silent.
“You have influence with the investigators.”
“No.”
“You could tell them I was manipulated.”
“Were you?”
Patricia began crying.
“I was protecting Daniel.”
“You keep using that word.”
“He is my child.”
“And Noah is mine.”
Patricia’s voice sharpened.
“You would send his grandmother to prison?”
“Your decisions may send you there.”
She ended the call.
For years, Patricia had taught Daniel that family loyalty meant hiding harm.
Now Caroline refused to continue the lesson.
Later, Noah asked why Grandma Patricia had not called him.
Caroline answered gently.
“She has serious problems to face.”
“Is it because of my money?”
