Chapter 9 - Madison’s Offer

Caroline refused to meet Madison alone.
They sat across from each other in Lena’s conference room.
Madison wore black instead of burgundy.
Her confidence seemed thinner.
“I can prove Daniel forged the loan documents,” she said.
“You helped him.”
“I followed instructions.”
“You entered my office and used my passwords.”
“He said everything was marital property.”
“My identity is not marital property.”
Madison looked down.
She offered recordings, emails, and access to a hidden company server.
In exchange, she wanted Caroline to support reduced civil claims.
Lena warned Caroline not to make promises before seeing the evidence.
Madison played one recording.
Daniel’s voice filled the room.
Once Caroline reacts to the room, we document the outburst. I’ll say she frightened Noah. Then I seek emergency custody and financial control.
Madison asked on the recording:
What if she just leaves?
Daniel laughed.
She has nowhere to go.
Caroline remained completely still.
Madison watched her carefully.
“I didn’t know he would involve Noah.”
“You laughed.”
Madison had no answer.
The next recording was worse.
Daniel admitted transferring money from Noah’s education account to cover company losses.
“He won’t need college money if I rebuild the business,” he said. “He’ll inherit everything.”
Caroline looked at Madison.
“You moved into my son’s room while helping steal his future.”
Madison’s eyes filled, but Caroline felt no sympathy.
Lena accepted the evidence for review.
As Madison left, she whispered, “Daniel is hiding more than debt.”
“What?”

“He has another child.”
