Chapter 15 - Daniel’s Counterattack
Daniel was released on bond with strict conditions.
His attorney immediately filed a motion claiming Caroline was wasting marital assets.
He pointed to the $1 million contribution.
“She is emotionally driven and financially reckless,” he argued.
Judge Price reviewed the matching agreement.
Caroline’s contribution had preserved claims against Daniel and increased recovery for victims.
The judge asked Daniel one question.
“How much did you spend furnishing Ms. Lane’s dressing room?”
Daniel hesitated.
Madison’s handbags, clothing, shelves, and renovation totaled $187,000.
Most was paid through company accounts.
The courtroom murmured.
Judge Price denied Daniel’s motion.
She then ordered him to disclose all personal spending over the previous five years.
Daniel’s attorney requested a recess.
Outside, Daniel approached Caroline.
“Do you enjoy this?”
“No.”
“You’re acting like a saint.”
“I’m acting like someone who finally stopped cleaning up your lies in secret.”
He stepped closer.
“You’ll regret humiliating me.”
A deputy intervened.
Daniel backed away.
Noah’s child advocate later reported that Daniel had asked Noah during a supervised call whether Caroline was “giving away his future.”
The judge suspended calls until Daniel completed parenting counseling.
For the first time, Daniel lost all direct access to Noah.
He blamed Caroline.
Then he discovered Madison had signed a cooperation agreement with prosecutors.
