Chapter 12 - The Three Passports

Isabella’s knees nearly gave way.
“Why did he have Noah’s passport?”
Jason answered too quickly.
“For family travel.”
“You never told me he had one.”
Evelyn interrupted.
“Parents arrange passports all the time.”
Helen examined the departure itinerary recovered from Jason’s office.
A private flight to Switzerland was scheduled for the next morning.
Passengers listed:
Jason Cross.
Evelyn Cross.
Noah Cross.
Isabella’s name was absent.
Margaret gripped Isabella’s shoulder.
Jason’s arrogance turned into panic.
“It was a contingency.”
“For what?” Ramirez asked.
“Business instability.”
“With an infant and no mother?”
Jason said nothing.
Isabella remembered Evelyn repeatedly offering to keep Noah overnight after the christening.
They planned to take him while Isabella dealt with the conservatorship petition.
The cruelty toward Margaret had been a distraction.
The public argument would become evidence that Isabella was unstable.
By morning, Jason and Evelyn intended to be gone with Noah and access to foreign accounts.
Isabella looked at her husband.
“You were going to steal my son.”
“He’s my son too.”
“A child is not property.”
Jason moved toward her.
Security restrained him.
“You can’t keep him from me!”
Isabella shielded Noah.
“You tried to remove his mother from his life.”
Police officers entered the ballroom.
They placed Jason under arrest for fraud, attempted custodial interference, and conspiracy.
Evelyn backed toward the wall.
Then Ramirez turned to her.

“Mrs. Cross, you are under arrest as well.”
👉 Evelyn had spent decades looking down on Margaret—but she left the ballroom in handcuffs while Margaret held the door open.
