Chapter 6 - The Hidden Recorder

Isabella met attorney Helen Ward in a private room at the Grand Plaza Hotel.

Helen had represented Margaret’s father decades earlier.

She brought the original trust records.

“The Fairmont trust owns sixty-two percent of the Grand Plaza,” Helen explained. “It also holds controlling interests in Cross Hospitality.”

Isabella stared at her.

“Jason’s company?”

“Jason’s company exists because Evelyn borrowed against Fairmont assets through questionable agreements.”

“Does Jason know?”

“He knows enough to be afraid.”

Helen showed her a clause stating that any spouse who attempted coercion, fraud, or unlawful control would be barred from trust distributions.

Evidence was necessary.

Isabella began recording conversations legally permitted under their circumstances and through home security systems she personally owned.

Jason discussed drugging her with Evelyn.

Evelyn suggested provoking emotional scenes in front of witnesses.

The private doctor agreed to sign a diagnosis without examining Isabella.

They even discussed using the christening reception to humiliate Margaret.

“If Isabella defends her,” Evelyn said on one recording, “we’ll call it another episode.”

Jason replied, “After the party, we file.”

Isabella listened in Helen’s office, shaking.

They had planned everything.

Margaret reached for her hand.

“You don’t have to face them alone.”

Isabella looked at her mother.

“I left you alone for years because I believed them.”

“You were manipulated.”

“I still chose not to listen.”

Margaret squeezed her hand.

“Then choose differently now.”

👉 Isabella knew the christening was a trap—but she decided to let Jason believe it was working.
