Chapter 23 - Sienna Faces Margaret
Sienna pleaded guilty to financial crimes and conspiracy.
Before sentencing, she requested a meeting with Margaret.
They sat across from each other in a secure courthouse room.
Margaret could barely speak.
“I looked for you.”
Sienna’s eyes were cold.
“You did not find me.”
“I found your adoptive parents. They asked me not to interfere.”
“They told me my birth mother accepted money.”
“I never did.”
Sienna looked away.
“Jason showed me documents.”
“You wanted to believe them.”
“Yes.”
The admission softened nothing, but it made honesty possible.
Margaret placed a small silver bracelet on the table.
“I bought this before you were born.”
Sienna stared at it.
“I kept it because it was the only thing I was allowed to keep.”
“Why are you giving it to me now?”
“Because it belongs to you. Not because I expect anything.”
Sienna did not touch it at first.
Then she pulled it closer.
“I don’t know if I can forgive you.”
Margaret nodded.
“I don’t know if I deserve it.”
For the first time, Sienna cried.
She agreed to testify about Jason’s offshore accounts and Evelyn’s communications.
Her cooperation would not erase prison.
But it would help recover millions.
As guards led her away, she took the bracelet.
Margaret watched silently.
