Chapter 10 - The Disposable Fiancée

A subpoena uncovered an email Gavin had sent to his personal attorney.

If the signature issue becomes criminal, position Sloane as acting without authorization.

Sloane read it during deposition.

Her red lipstick seemed to lose its color.

“He told me the transfer was legal,” she said.

Gavin’s lawyer objected. Sloane’s attorney demanded a recess.

Outside the room, Gavin cornered her near the elevators.

“Do not panic,” he hissed. “We’re getting married. Everything I’m protecting belongs to us.”

Sloane looked toward me. For the first time, her expression held no triumph. Only dread.

She had helped humiliate me. She had slept in my marriage and spent money meant for my children. I felt no sympathy.

But I understood what she had finally discovered.

Gavin did not have partners.
