Chapter 12 - The Break-In

Sloane’s apartment was broken into that night.

Drawers were emptied. Furniture was slashed. Her laptop disappeared.

The original phone was gone.

She called me from the lobby, crying and furious.

“This is your fault,” she said.

“No,” I answered. “This is what he does when people stop obeying him.”

Security footage showed a man in a maintenance uniform entering the building. His face was hidden, but the van outside belonged to a contractor used by Gavin’s company.

Police recovered the van. Inside they found Sloane’s laptop, Walter’s home address, and photographs of my sons leaving school.

That was the moment my fear changed into something colder.

Gavin had brought Nolan and Parker into his intimidation campaign.

I requested emergency custody restrictions. Judge Beckett granted supervised contact until the threat was investigated.

Gavin exploded in court.

“You’re stealing my children!”

I stood. “No. I’m stopping you from using them.”

👉 Gavin had lost access to the boys, and his next move showed how far he would go to regain control.
