Chapter 11 - The Recording She Hid

She wanted immunity before sharing anything.
The prosecutors had not yet filed charges, so no promises could be made. Sloane hesitated.

She produced a voice recording from the night Gavin proposed. In it, he described changing the ownership history, draining the twins’ trust, and forcing me to accept a small settlement before I discovered the original documents.
Sloane asked whether I could challenge him.
Gavin laughed.
“Cassandra won’t fight. She’s spent her whole life protecting everyone else.”
Hearing his certainty hurt more than hearing about the affair.
He had mistaken decency for weakness.
Judge Beckett allowed the recording provisionally, pending authentication.
