Chapter 2 - The First Name on the Page

Judge Beckett lifted the original certificate beneath the courtroom lights.

“Bellamy-Rourke Technologies,” she read. “Organized twelve years ago. Initial ownership: Cassandra Bellamy, fifty-one percent. Gavin Rourke, forty-nine percent.”

Whispers rolled through the gallery.

Sloane turned toward Gavin. “You said you founded it alone.”

“I did,” he snapped. “Cassandra was only listed for tax reasons.”

His lawyer closed his eyes.

I watched Nolan and Parker glance between us. I had protected them from the ugliest details of our divorce. Gavin had not returned the favor. For months he had told them I wanted to steal the company that paid for their school and home.

Judge Beckett tapped the document. “This certificate carries a state seal and the signature of the attorney who filed it.”

Gavin pointed at me. “She manufactured it.”

The judge’s expression hardened. “Then you won’t mind explaining why your own signature appears beneath hers.”

👉 Gavin’s signature proved the company had been mine too—but the next page suggested he had known exactly how to steal it.
