Chapter 8 - The Trust Account

The envelope contained statements from a trust my father had created for Nolan and Parker.

The balance should have been $600,000.

It was nearly empty.

Gavin had transferred the money through a company subsidiary, labeling it a temporary family loan. My signature appeared on the authorization.

I had never signed it.

My hands shook so hard Elena took the papers from me.

“This is forgery,” she said. “And misuse of protected funds.”

The transfer dates matched Sloane’s first year at the company. Soon after, Gavin purchased a waterfront condominium through an LLC.

I wanted to call him and scream. Instead, I drove home, made dinner for the boys, and listened as Parker described a science project.

That night, Nolan asked whether their father was telling the truth about me.

“I hope one day you’ll judge both of us by what we did,” I said.

👉 The stolen trust money gave Gavin a motive, but one forged signature could still destroy my credibility unless I proved who created it.
