Chapter 3 - Before the Money Changed Him

Twelve years earlier, Gavin had an idea and no money.

I had just inherited $480,000 from my father, a careful man who believed love should never require financial blindness. Gavin brought me sketches for a medical inventory system and promised we would build something together.

I invested $320,000. I designed the first client workflow. I recruited the hospital administrator who became our first contract.

At the attorney’s office, Gavin kissed my forehead after we signed the certificate.

“Partners in everything,” he whispered.

For five years, that was true. Then investors arrived. Awards followed. Gavin began introducing me as “my wife” instead of “my co-founder.”

My office became a storage room. My access to board meetings disappeared. He told me it was temporary while I cared for the twins.

I wanted peace at home, so I ignored the first insult.

That mistake taught him I might ignore the second.
