Chapter 23 - My Father’s Adviser

Richard Cole had managed my father’s finances for twenty years.

He had encouraged me to invest in Gavin’s idea and recommended the attorney who formed the company.

Investigators found transfers from Gavin to Cole beginning one month after my father died.

Cole confessed.

He had told Gavin the exact size of my inheritance, advised him how to structure the company, and later helped create shell entities. In return, he received secret consulting payments.

My father had suspected Cole near the end of his life. That was why he insisted I hold fifty-one percent and placed the twins’ future trust under separate protection.

His precautions had delayed the theft, but not prevented it.

Cole surrendered a safe-deposit key containing my father’s original planning notes.
