Chapter 10 - The Recording

Marcus blocked the door.

Daniel stood behind Rebecca.

Her father watched from the bed without speaking.

“You’re confused,” Marcus said calmly. “You’ve been under pressure.”

Rebecca recognized the tone.

The gentle voice he used before telling strangers she was irrational.

“I’m leaving.”

“You abandoned the children in unsafe housing.”

“They’re protected.”

“Where are they?”

Rebecca said nothing.

Marcus stepped closer.

“Come home tonight, and I won’t file charges.”

“For what?”

“Theft. Fraud. Kidnapping.”

“You mean the crimes you committed?”

His eyes changed.

Only for a second.

But Rebecca saw the fear.

She raised her phone.

“I have the files.”

“You have stolen documents you don’t understand.”

“I understand my name.”

Her father finally spoke.

“Rebecca, stop this before you destroy the family.”

She turned to him.

“You shut the door on your grandchildren.”

“I was protecting everyone.”

“From me?”

“From scandal.”

Rebecca laughed once, without humor.

“You chose appearances over us.”

Marcus reached for her phone.

Rebecca stepped back.

Two uniformed officers entered.

Teresa followed.

“This conversation is being recorded,” Rebecca said.

Marcus froze.

Every threat, every admission, every desperate demand had been captured.

Teresa moved between them.

“Mr. Cole, step away from your wife.”

May you like

Marcus smiled again, but his hands were shaking.

👉 Marcus believed the recording was Rebecca’s strongest weapon—until Detective Price found the hidden account created in Lily’s name.
