Chapter 11 - Lily’s Stolen Future

Detective Samuel Price spread the financial records across a conference table.

Rebecca sat beside her attorney, Maya Greene.

Price pointed to an account created six years earlier.

Account holder: Lily Cole.

Authorized custodian: Marcus Cole.

Balance at opening: $480,000.

Current balance: $1,203.

Rebecca stared at the numbers.

“That money belonged to Lily?”

“It came from the Hart family trust,” Maya said.

Marcus had created accounts for all three children.

Then emptied them.

Daniel’s development company received part of the money.

Claire’s boutique received another portion.

Rebecca’s father had authorized several transfers.

Her mother had signed as a witness.

“My entire family stole from my children.”

Price did not soften it.

“Yes.”

Lily had been sitting outside the conference room.

She entered before Rebecca could hide the papers.

“Did Dad take something from me?”

Rebecca rose quickly.

“You shouldn’t have heard that.”

“What did he take?”

Rebecca crouched in front of her.

“Money your great-grandmother saved for your future.”

Lily’s face hardened.

“Is that why Grandpa wouldn’t let us inside?”

Rebecca could not lie anymore.

“Yes.”

Lily looked down.

“Then I don’t want their money.”

“It was yours.”

“I want them to say they were wrong.”

Rebecca pulled her close.

“So do I.”

Maya received an email while they embraced.

Marcus had filed for emergency custody.
